Suurpelto Electricity Substation

The Suurpelto substation supplies the growing residential district of Suurpelto in central Espoo. The site lies between one of the main ring roads of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and a new residential and office building area.

The substation consists of a switchgear building and a transformer shelter. The substation forms an enclosed block with a fenced courtyard. The brick facades of the buildings have been laid by hand, partly stacked crosswise, creating a zigzag pattern on the southern and north façades. An earlier, vividly coloured transmission line terminal stands next to our project.
